One of the best aspects of my job is watching families and people I wouldn’t know otherwise grow and change over time. Since meeting Brittany in 2015, I have watched her love her two kids unconditionally, support her son as he makes tremendous growth in his abilities, express her love for Jeremy, welcome another kid into her life, and now get married!!
Brittany and Jeremy’s day was so beautiful! They joined hands amidst the fall colors in Fox Run Park whilst the people who love and support them the most stood nearby to witness them solemnize their own vows. The vows get me every time. It doesn’t matter how well I know the couple or not. It’s every time. Hearing people speak to one another about what they value and love about each other is powerfully beautiful and moving. I’m not suggesting we all go around making vows to one another all the time, but I do think that we, as humans, could express our gratitude, love, and appreciation for one another more often. Weddings remind me of that and constantly remind me of the beauty in the world.
After the ceremony, we took some family photos. The first time I met Lane, at the age of 3 or 4, he could not stand on his own. During the ceremony and family photos, he was literally taking off, sprinting through the woods. (There was someone to chase him and keep him safe, I promise.) It was nearly impossible to keep Lane in one relative area for more than 5 seconds and even more challenging to capture a photo of him generally facing the direction the camera, much less looking into it. And I loved it! As a third party observer of this family, and as a former special education teacher, I celebrated the challenges that his increased mobility brought to the session.
Brittany and Jeremy, congratulations on your marriage. Thank you for inviting and trusting me to capture your day! I wish you a long, happy life filled with events and little things that bring you closer together each day.
