March 10, 2018
I met Alexis on the day of her junior prom, in May 2017. Her best friend, Emma, was one of my 2017 seniors. I was SO excited when she asked me to also take prom photos for her and her friend. I met Emma and Alexis at the top of a hill overlooking Garden of the Gods. There were about 50 other prom-goers and all their parents taking photos as well and clouds and rain rolling in over the mountains. We only had about 20 minutes for photos, as the girls had a dinner reservation to make, but we made the most of every second. Alexis’s photo from that day is one of my all time favorite images! The wind rippling through her gorgeous pink gown is mesmerizing and breathtaking.
I was so excited to hear from Alexis a few months later to do her senior photo session! I enjoyed meeting both her mom and her dad, who are so proud of her accomplishments! Amongst many of her activities and accomplishments is her love for volleyball. I had fun figuring out how to get an action shot of Alexis setting and bumping the ball. Though it was far from an exact science, we couldn’t have done it without the help of her mom!
We started this senior session in downtown Old Colorado City, a quaint little downtown area in Colorado Springs. Then we headed on over to Red Rocks Open Space for some photos surrounded by the beautiful nature of Colorado. Red Rocks is a personally favorite location of mine. Within 5-10 minutes of walking, you can reach a variety of different backdrops from mountains, to red rocks, to the beautiful long grasses you see featured in Alexis’s photos. We ended the session at the gorgeous Broadmoor hotel.
It’s tiring to smile genuinely for almost 2 hours, but Alexis was a trooper and a good sport when I coached her into a ton of different poses. I wish you all the best in your senior year, Alexis, and hope you find clarity as you take the next steps in life after graduating!
