It is always a joy to spend time with a family that loves and adores one another and wants you to take pictures of them. Throughout the entire hour-long shoot, laughter was ringing through the rocks while the Gaub family ran around, climbed everything they could, and simply enjoyed one another’s company in Ute Valley. As a military family, they have lived all over the United States, but it seems to me (who in no way is biased…OK…maybe a little) that Colorado may be their favorite. Adventure seems right around every corner at every moment for them.
The session below began pretty early in the morning because Dennara was making the trek back to college in Montana. She is just a couple of months away from finishing her degree. The mad sprint to the finish line is before her, so it’s good to see her smile before the exhaustion of completing college sets in. Declan, on the other hand, is preparing to begin college in the fall. Where one sibling ends, the other begins!
As you can see from the pictures, the Gaub family does not shy away from familial affection. Love abounds and flows freely through teasing, hugs, and the occasional race up and down a hill. Darin, the father, also doesn’t seem to mind crashing a few pictures because scaling a rock face is too tempting of a challenge. Sonda, all the while, fully embraced the silliness of her family, revealing her deep and heartfelt care for each of them.
What is evident here is that the Gaub family chooses to live life fully alive, setting aside an early, and somewhat chilly, morning, to find joy in the splendor of creation with family. This fun-loving family was certainly a joy to work with, even though it was a little early for us, too. May the smiles, laughs, and hugs never end!
