Can I have a real moment with you? I am still new to this whole blogging thing, and it takes me far too long to get the right words out of my head onto “the paper.” However, I love the idea of taking you along with me into my world of photography. So, here we are. I am currently sitting on my couch (it’s brand new, by the way, and SO comfortable!). My kitty Merlin is curled up next to me and I have also finally paused “Friends” because Chandler’s jokes and Ross’s whining are just not helping the words flow.
A few weeks ago, I had the privilege of joining my first styled shoot! I didn’t even know what a styled shoot was until about 3 months ago, and then had no idea how to find one or to be invited to one. Thanks to a new Facebook group of Colorado photographers, I learned about the Mint to Be styled shoot, organized by the talented Jen Cole with The Styled Shoot Project.
On the Sunday of the shoot, I woke up early, even though it didn’t start until noon. For those who don’t me, I am NOT a morning person. Never have been. There is photographic and video evidence of me as a baby and toddler not being a morning person. My dad even named the dead-stare look I have after first waking up.
But I digress.
I woke up early on this Sunday because I. was. nervous.
“But, Rachel! It’s not a real wedding. There’s no pressure! Why were you nervous?”
Because. Ok? Because, my friends, it was still something new and new stuff is kind of scary. Plus, there were other people who’d be watching me work and listening as I tried to step forth with confidence to put out my ideas for setting up shots and directing posing. So, on the hour drive up to Denver, I was nervous.
However, my fears were quickly put aside as I met and worked alongside a talented group of creatives. Along with a great group of photographer women, I had the opportunity to work with the following vendors:
Ashley was able to bring her talents as a makeup artist to the session by doing her own makeup. She and her husband, Josh, were excellent models. They were so easy to work with and Ashley also brought several of her own photo ideas (see the gorgeous twirling photos below!!).
Preslee created the elegant hairstyles for Ashley and Emily who wore the gowns from Luv Bridal.
Lehrers Flowers provided the stunning bouquets and center pieces.
The gorgeous, handwritten vows were provided by The Pineapple Envelopes. And the Minty stationary for the invitations are from Ink Topiary.
The table set up was provided by Colorado Party Rentals
I am so thankful for this experience and can’t wait for more styled shoot and weddings in the future!
