Seniors | Styled Shoot | Standley Lake

Denver. Traffic.

I planned for it…but not well enough. It took me almost 3 hours to get to Standly Lake for this Styled Senior Shoot (should’ve taken 2). I was in a cranky, crabby mood when I arrived…just to find out I was on the wrong side of the lake! 10 more minutes and I finally arrived at the correct location, loaded up with my gear, and found the group of photographers I was working with for the evening.

Kaylaa was the first model (in red) that my group was working with for the evening. As I got acquainted with sweet Kaylaa, the other fabulous photographers, and this gorgeous location, my mood changed immediately and drastically. I felt energized, excited, and genuinely happy to be behind the camera on this gorgeous summer evening. I loved every minute of the two hour shoot.

Kaylaa, Brielle (in pink), and Avery (in yellow) were equally great to work with. All three girls handled 9 photographers who were giving them nonstop direction for 2 hours like pros. Plus, they were willing to get in the water (there’s water in Colorado?!) for the end of the session. The day was gray and overcast, and we all assumed we weren’t going to get a sunset for this session. In fact, we were just hoping the rain would hold off. As the rain clouds were darkening and becoming more threatening, we asked the girls to get in the water before it was too late. Luckily, the rain somehow held off and as we started shooting in the water, a small band of orange glow started to shine over the mountains. As we continued taking photos, the sunset kept growing under the dark, looming storm clouds. It was breathtaking.

The rain ended up holding out just long enough. I got in my car at the end of the shoot, tired, a little muddy, and completely rejuvenated and excited about photography and then it started to rain. I had a 2-hour trek back down the Springs, but I was so thankful for the opportunity to meet and work with other talented Colorado photographers.
