A Letter to Future Baby Lindsey

Little One,

I want to tell you about your mom and dad because I want you to know just how wonderful they are. They are both teachers. Your mom is a school counselor, which means she teaches kids how to take care of their minds and their emotions. Your dad is a PE teacher and teaches kids how to take care of their bodies and their health. They are really good at teaching some really important things!

You mom, Melissa, is one of the most tender-hearted people I have ever met. Her heart is so big and has so much room to love. Remember that she’s a school counselor and that means it is literally her job to care about others – that’s how good she is at it! Something she likes to do is give really good gifts that always let you know she is thinking about you.

Her superpower is noticing how others feel. Sometimes people feel sad or need a friend, and your mom knows how to sit and listen until they feel a little better. She knows, too, that it’s okay to feel angry and upset and doesn’t make you feel bad for feeling bad and can help you feel better when you’re ready. Your mom also laughs…a lot! She finds joy in almost anything and shares it by laughing so hard that you can’t help but laugh and feel happy, too. She’s a really good person to share your stories and your feelings with because she lets you be you and will share your sadness/anger/joy/silliness with you!

Another important thing to know is that your mom has been called “Mom” before you. Kids do it all the time by accident at school, but that’s just because kids feel the kind of love from her that they know is a mama’s love. It’s selfless and safe. It’s big and comforting. It’s happy and fun!

Your dad, Kenny, is a very kind man. Like your mom, he’s thoughtful and generous with his time and his resources. He’ll help you out or talk to you when you need a friend. Did you know that it’s difficult for some people to meet and to talk to others? Well, one of your dad’s superpowers is helping other people feel comfortable and safe so that it’s not hard to talk to him or to be his friend. His superpower works with kids and adults, too!

You also get an awesome cousin, James. He’s going to love you to pieces and give you all the attention you want! He’s fun and silly and will teach you important things like how to be kind to any person you meet, no matter what. He’ll probably also teach you how to karaoke and you’ll have so much fun together!

I don’t know the rest of your family very well, but I know you have a big family and that they like to be together. It’s extra special to be in their family because you’ll never lack for people to care for you!

Your mom and dad give their love away all the time and the world is better because their love is out there, walking around in the hearts of others.

This time, they sent their love out into the world and it’s searching for you. Now they’re waiting for their love to come back home to them, so come home soon! Your mom and dad already love you, but they can’t wait to meet you!
