Sweaty hair from playing hard. Check.
Riding a bike in a pretty pink dress before photos. Check.
A less-than-thrilled attitude about having to get her picture taken. Check.
A mom who got her children up, fed, and nicely dressed before 9:00 am. Check.
These were the ingredients that we mixed together to get this lovely, sweet, beautiful lifestyle session with Dayna and her kids.
Time and again I see that perfect attitudes and perfect clothes and perfectly behaved children are not what add up to a perfect photo session.
Life is messy and feelings are valid and relationships are not summed up in perfect smiles looking at the camera. Relationships are squishy cheeks, snuggles, silly faces, holding hands, and hugs. Life is time together, grief, joy, play, the mundane, and love for one another.
If you have young children, the best advice I can give you before a photo session with me is to not stress too much. Prepare, yes. Get your kids clothed. 😆 Bribe them before the session if you want. But also relax and enjoy your time with them once you get to the session. I can promise you that almost nothing will ruffle my feathers. My time as a teacher for 6 years has me well-equipped with realistic expectations for children. Your children are who they are and I also know you’re working hard every day to continue shaping them into better versions of themselves. I promise to not judge you.
My goal is always to capture the real and authentic connections and love you have with your children. Those bonds are forged and won through tears and laughter, pain and joy. Your kids aren’t perfect. Neither are you. Neither am I. So, together let’s let go of the stress and perfection expected from the [social media] world and instead capture what’s real and lovely in your life.
Dayna, thanks for giving me the opportunity to capture you and your kids for who you are. Love you guys!
